Tonganangaon Assam effuses a strong, deliciously malty flavour. This brew stands out from other “orthodox” teas due to its full-bodied character. Whilst it tastes wonderful on its own, it also holds up well to the addition of milk.

Assam is one of the few places outside of China where tea is native, hence its botanical name, camellia sinensis var. assamica. It was traditionally picked, processed and drunk by the Singpho hill tribe, who introduced it to Scotsman Robert Bruce in 1823. Since then, it has become one of the most heavily produced teas, commonly used in blends. Mass production by large corporations has contributed to egregious human rights transgressions and widespread unsustainable agricultural practice.

Tonganagaon, by contrast, is an exceptional plantation both in terms of its teacraft and its humanitarian and environmental practices. It operates to fully organic standards and goes out of its way to provide adequate housing, medical care and education to its employees and their families. Our wild-grown Vietnamese Black Snow Faerie, from the Ho Thau region, is a marvellously rich tippy black tea. It is harvested from wild tea trees that grow 2000m above sea level in mountainous North Vietnam (bordering with Yunnan). In the cup, it is richly scented and gold textured. It tastes earthy, yet pleasingly fresh and floral. You can detect a touch of smoke and a hint of mountain haar, as the Red Dow tribal people who pick and craft the tea fire it using woks, in order to halt the oxidation process and lock in the tea’s complexities. The unique taste of this sublime brew wonderfully evokes the landscape and culture from whence it originates.

Faeries’ Blood is an expertly blended, refreshing, fruity, minty and naturally sweet herbal infusion. This blood-red concoction is freshly squeezed daily from the faeries of the River Kelvin. It is jam-packed with magical goodness from their diet of strawberries, kiwi fruit, hibiscus, peppermint, camomile and fluffy raspberry leaf. We find it great for inducing a sense of calm and well-being. It is a satisfyingly rich brew on its own, but we recommend enhancing the subtlety of the herbs with a healthy spoonful of honey.

Our Sencha Emerald Green is a fine, handcrafted Japanese green tea, produced without use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. It is grown by the Morimoto family of Kyushu, southern Japan, using the Okumidori cultivar. It offers a robust, vegetal palate with just a hint of sea salt, minimal astringency and a naturally sweet aftertaste.

The beautiful yet simple 150ml kungfu teapot, made of unglazed Yixing clay, matures with usage. It is primarily used for high quality loose leaf teas and is a must have for any tea connoisseur, allowing the full potential of your leaves to unfold.

How to prepare your single origin teas with the Kung Fu tea pot:

1. warm up pot and tea cups with hot water
2. add 2 teaspoons of tea to pot
3. add 150ml i) 80°C water if brewing Sencha or ii) 90°C water if brewing Black Snow Faerie
4. Brew for between 30 seconds and a minute
5. Decant all infusion evenly into both cups
6. Re-infuse with hot water and longer brewing time up to 4 times

Our Mulled Wine Tea blend is a non-alcoholic variant on Tchai-Ovna founder Martin’s old Czech family recipe. Made using native Scottish clay slips, alluvial deposits and wood and peat ash glazes they speak to the overall aims of Crunch Willoughby’s practice; to celebrate place, provenance, sustainability and Scottish materials.

Crunch thought their name should reflect their Scottish spirit so she christened them the ‘Stravaig mug’. Still a ‘travel’ mug in function but with a Scottish heart.
