Ruby Oolong is a very high quality oolong tea, grown in the high mountains of Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand. It is named for the reddish-black colour of its leaves and made using the ruanzhi, or “soft stem” tea cultivar. It is produced using an intensive 24-hour rolling, steaming and roasting process. It produces a honey-coloured cup, full-bodied yet quite light and smooth on the first infusion. It has a sweet, caramel nose and a complex taste with floral and almost buttery hints, while vegetal notes of cloud and drizzle hint at its high growing altitude.
