Meet the Morimotos. A family of tea growers who are meeting the climate emergency with innovation and ingenuity.

We at Tchai-Ovna, take immense pride in sourcing the finest loose-leaf teas from around the world. Today, we’re delighted to introduce you to a gem from Japan: Morimoto Sencha Okumidori.

Harvested from early April to June, Sencha is crafted from premium tea leaves, offering a robust vegetal taste and a naturally sweet aftertaste with minimal astringency. Our Morimoto Sencha is made from the Okumidori cultivar, lovingly crafted by the Morimoto family.

The Morimoto family, true artisans of tea, are small independent growers located on Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost island, in the Miyazaki prefecture. Specializing in organic tea cultivation, they use a variety of cultivars (sub-species) to create teas with nuanced, characterful flavors. Remarkably, Kyushu produces up to 80% of Japan’s organic teas.

In the face of climate change, tea producers like the Morimoto family are adapting with resilience. By cultivating a diverse range of cultivars, each responding uniquely to climate challenges—some thriving in dry conditions, others in wet—they ensure the continued production of exceptional tea in an economically and environmentally sustainable way.

We are truly honored to offer teas from the Morimoto family. They are not just tea experts; they are passionate stewards of the environment they work in.

Join us in celebrating the Morimoto Sencha Okumidori. Brew a cup, savor its rich flavors, and experience the dedication and care of the Morimoto family with every sip.
