Yerba Maté, or Maté Rancho, is a highly stimulating beverage, made from an alternative plant to tea found in South America, where it is extremely popular.
Especially popular in Argentina and Brazil, Yerba Maté is known to have been Ché Guevara’s favourite drink. It was originally a beverage enjoyed primarily by the South American indigenous population. It has a strong, vegetal taste and an energising effect, helping the weary gaucho through long days in the sun-baked pampas.
Maté is best enjoyed in a traditional drinking gourd and sipped slowly through a ‘bombilla‘, or stainless steel drinking straw. As the tradition is to fill the gourd with maté to near the top and reinfuse it many times, we sell it in 500g bags.
