Green Tea

Green tea is traditionally produced by drying tea leaves then heating them over big pans in fires. Unlike black tea, green tea is not oxidised. This allows it to retain a higher concentration of health-giving antioxidant compounds, such as catechins and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), resulting in a long list of health benefits!

Green tea is said to contribute to improved heart health, better cognitive function and reduced chance of strokes and diabetes. It has also been shown to reduce the likelihood of getting many forms of cancer. In addition, it can aid weight loss and may also combat neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Green teas are also refreshing and tasty. They help you to naturally rehydrate and offer a relatively mild, pleasantly balanced caffeine kick. The taste varies from tea to tea, but is generally natural, slightly sweet, earthy or vegetal and flowery. Some of the best green teas even offer up a subtly aromatic whiff of maritime air, transporting you to the Seas of Japan or South China.

We offer a range of green teas from a number of different countries, all carefully selected for their high quality. We direct source and select naturally grown options wherever we can.

In order to get the most out of your green teas, we recommend preparing them with not quite boiling water, around 70-80°C. Avoid overbrewing, as this can create an unpleasantly bitter taste. Green teas can be reinfused in the pot multiple times, taking on subtly different taste characteristics each time, so even if you have overbrewed, you can always discard the liquid and brew it up again!

We hope you enjoy perusing our selection of green teas and might be tempted to try some for yourself!
